Own a piece of rolling history with this rare Gary Fisher RS-1 full suspension mountain bike that’s been tested and refurbished and comes with a warranty! The 1991 RS-1 was the first production full-suspension mountain bike by Gary Fisher, one of the acknowledged inventors of the mountain bike. It was designed in California by champion motorcycle racer Mert Lawwill; its rear suspension adapted the A-arm suspension design from sports car racing, and was the first four-bar linkage in mountain biking. It was designed, according to a 1991 technical brochure from the Gary Fisher Bicycle Company, for racing (as opposed to freeclimbing): it has “a steeper seat-tube angle, which positions the rider further over the pedals, facilitating a spinning action that allows for faster changes in pedaling speed and makes it easier to stand up and deliver more power to the pedals during a steep climb”. It also has a “steeper head angle for a quicker steering bike”, and “a longer top tube [that] lowers the rider’s center of gravity and creates a more aerodynamic position.. and helps to keep the front tire down on fast corners and steep hills”.”These bikes are for experienced, competitive riders who require precisely tuned, highly responsive bikes,” the brochure adds. This model is equipped with the following components:Fork: Rockshox mag 20Shock: ElastomerRear Derailleur: Campagnolo MTBFront Derailleur: Campagnolo MTBCrankset: SuginoChainring: SuginoPedals: Deore XT M730Cassette: Campagnolo 8-speedHubs: CampagnoloFront Brakes: Dia-Compe 987 cantileverRear Brakes: Mountain Cycle Pro-stop discStem: Control TechBars: Gary FisherBar Ends: OnzaGrips: Gary FisherShifters: Campagnolo thumb shiftersBrake Levers: Dia-Compe SS-5Seatpost: Nitto 67Saddle: Gary FisherSeat Quick Release: CampagnoloFront Wheel Quick Release: CampagnoloChain: SachsRim: Araya RM-400 ProTires: Gary Fisher DustTrax KevlarWarranty: 60 days (repair), 30 days (return for store credit)Free tuneup within one year of purchase. The frame material is Gary Fisher’s exclusive Supersize Easton double-butted cross-ovalized 7005 aluminum. “Supersize” means greater outer diameter and thinner walls for greater stiffness and strength without additional weight – “all we’ve added is air space”, says the Gary Fisher tech specs. The real benefit of the strength and stiffness, Gary Fisher says, is in the superior ride and improved handling. “Off-road riding stresses and flexes the bike in many ways, and a flexing bike wastes energy and efficiency.” The torsionally stiffer frame reduces flex and keeps the bike tracking where you want it to.Frame size: 20 Inches (large to XL)This is a used bike and has a few scratches and signs of previous use (see photos).
