For Sale: The ultimate example of the urban bike, the “town bike”,the profile bike, I am presenting what I have termed the Mod lll (the Modern 3-speed).The term Mod lll incorporates several ideas and solutions that I hope resonate with a few forward-thinking bike aficionados. Most urban excursions don’t require more than 3 gear options, the existing 3-speed hubs are far too heavy, the best way to have a great cycling experience is to be on a high quality road wheelset with great road tires. This brought me to my solution,3-speeds via the front derailleur and a single cog on a quality rear wheel.I also wanted to be able to change the character of the Mod lll by having a second wheelset with larger tires for the times when caution is thrown to the wind. This meant that a cyclocross frame was needed to accommodate the bigger tires for the second wheelset. The best cyclocross frames are made in Belgium (cyclocross is their national sport) and Ridley have the majority of world cyclocross titles.I have this example as well as another smaller X-fire in another auction.I assembled this bike with equipment that is visually striking and performs at the top level. The frame is 58 cm,due to the higher bb, effectively the size is closer to 60 or 61.With the 175mm crank arm length, an inseam of 40″ could work on this frame (I have the Ritchey Superlogic seatpost at the max to insure this post has no insertion marks),an inseam of at least 34″ would be preferable in the sense that I think the bike needs a certain amount of seatpost to show above the clamp to look balanced. The Ritchey Superlogic stem and WCS bars with a Prologo carbon seat complete the super strong and light cockpit. The Fulcrum Racing Zero wheelset is my favorite alloy rimmed (it is a Campagnolo product with ceramic bearings and carbon hubs),the Schwalbe Pro One (700 x 28) tires are the best rolling tires you can get and they are tubeless on these dead-round rims.I went with the Shimano XT shifter and front derailleur because they were all black (compared to some of the XTR that had more grey or silver)Same goes for the Shimano chain tensioner. They shift flawlessly, the FSA crank is a great visual addition and is super-light.The Avid Ultimate Shorty brakes have the red hardware that inspires the rest of the choices for this color scheme. The pedals are magnesium with titanium spindles, the brake levers are 64 grams for both. The KMC SL10 black chain is also visually stunning as well as light as hell. The second wheelset is a Mavic Ksyrium SSC all black mounted with Maxxis Re-Fuse 700 x 40.They are also tubeless, but I have Schwalbe tubes in these at present, this is another dead-round set of wheels (all spokes are free,no frozen nipples to spokes). The bike has a totally different look with these wheels, and I like both looks. This is a 15 lb. 2 oz. carbon dream (amazing considering the frame size and construction) with the Fulcrum wheelset. You can find far more expensive rides and you will see 10 or 20 of the same at any race or gathering of bikes, you will not see any bike as cool as this one at any race, critical mass or profile opportunity.Thank you for looking, please check out my other listings on eBay.Shipping will probably be via Bike Flights,I will offer to pay for domestic destinations.
